Marketing

Role and Responsibilities

I'm responsible for all things digital! Whether that be an Instagram story or a LinkedIn article - that's me! I also do a lot of website work in terms of getting us found, with some great keywords to help people find out about Verve. If you ever want to write an article or have any great ideas when it comes to our online space - I'm all ears!

Background

I graduated from University in 2021, I studied Theatre and Performance Practice and it (somehow) landed me in the world of digital marketing and I love my degree for that. I went on into selling business owners' websites, SEO and just general digital marketing which give me my knowledge and love for understanding analytics and watching numbers grow!

Interests and Hobbies

I hate myself - hence why I have no spare time, ever. I have my own nail business that I do most evenings after work as well as running my own youth theatre group on a Saturday morning and I am on a committee for an am-dram group in Billingham.

Fun Facts

...I can bend my fingers backwards, yes it's gross and yes I will show you!

Advice for a New Starter

Everyone is lovely and you can speak to literally anyone, I have never been in a workplace before where I have found that nobody is a dickhead! Ask questions and speak to people - they aren't as scary as you think!

Working at Verve

It's great - if you're used to being micro-managed then you can forget that, you are in charge of your work but there is no pressure and you will always be learning from your team. It's fast-paced but in the best way because it's so forward-thinking here, we're always working on the next biggest thing!

Alanis Daniel

Compliance Consultant

SERVICES

Role and Responsibilities

I work in file checking and Regulation. I carry out file checks on all different aspects of advice and provide feedback as to if this is considered suitable or if theres issues or any areas that firms could improve on. Regulation covers off all things FCA, I mainly help with peoples applications to become directly authorised and set up on their own.

Background

I started work with Verve straight out of uni and joined as a grad in Apricity. My degree was actually in Biomedical science, but I've been working in compliance ever since!

Interests and Hobbies

I can (badly) play the saxophone, its more of a squeak these days! I'm usually at gigs or the Boro matches.

Fun Facts

I live on a farm!

Advice for a New Starter

Ask all of the questions that you have!

Working at Verve

It's a lovely relaxed social place to work. Everyone is super friendly and approachable, and who doesn't love an office dog!

Alasdair Wilson

Investment Specialist

SERVICES

Role and Responsibilities

My main responsibility is the DNA Service, helping financial advisers articulate what they offer to clients in terms of their service, platforms, products and investment strategies. I also host (and sometimes deliver content on) the investment-focused webinars.

Background

In terms of education, I have a degree in Geology from the University of St Andrews. Straight out of university, I taught A-Level Geology and Geography for around 6 years alongside studying for a PGCE. I made the change to finance 5 years ago, starting out as a paraplanner and then specialising more in the investment side of things. I have since achieved the Level 4 DipPFS in financial planning as well as a CFA Certificate in ESG Investing with the Investment Management Certificate to come next.

Interests and Hobbies

I'm a keen hiker and cyclist so spend most of my weekends out walking in the hills or pumping some miles in on my bike. My camera comes with me on just about every day out, and have recently been dabbling in film photography again because my hobbies just weren't expesive enough already.

Fun Facts

I have a blind cat, called Tarquin, whom I have raised since he was a 6 week old kitten. He was born blind so he doesn't miss what he never had, but it still doesn't stop some people crying when they meet him.

Advice for a New Starter

As there's a lot to learn and get your head around when you first join, try and absorb as much knowledge as you can. If you're not sure why something is the way it is, don't just leave it at that or struggle your way through; ask someone as we will have almost certainly thought the exact same thing when we first joined, and will (usually) be able to better articulate an explanation than something from a quick Google. Investing in a sound knowledge base will pay dividends later on in your financial career.

Alex Buckle

Paraplanner

SERVICES

Role and Responsibilities

I'm a paraplanner - mainly report writing, a dabble of research and project management, and the occasional meeting with external clients.

Background

I studied Psychology at Durham University and then went straight into the Grad Scheme. I was the first winner of the internal Verve Award back in 2019, but I'd say my greatest achievement to date was probably winning a European holiday for two at 'Hijingo Bingo' last month (sorry!)

Interests and Hobbies

I enjoy reading, trash TV, hikes, going to the theatre and gigs, and spending too much time watching reels.

Fun Facts

I went to Liverpool a few years ago for my friend's birthday. I felt my bag move and realised that my phone had been swiped. I noticed a suspicious guy weaving his way through the crowd in the opposite direction. So, instead of telling the police or nearby staff like a normal (and sensible) person, I gave chase like a bad cop movie. Anyway, long story short, I got my phone back!! You can take the girl out of Bishop, but you can't take the Bishop out of the girl...

Advice for a New Starter

Be mentally prepared for your face to be superimposed on a topical meme by Ali.

Amy Alderson

Executive Assistant to Cathi

Business Operations

Role and Responsibilities

My main role within Verve is Executive Assistant to Cathi and the Senior team. The responsibilities of this can depend on the business needs at different times but essentially whatever support they need I am here to help where I can so they can concentrate on the bigger company objectives. This covers main core responsibilities such as is supporting the business/client operations, diary management, project management, the We Are Change programme, recruitment, office management, travel and accommodation planning plus expenses, accounts queries plus helping out with events (there is also probably much more :D). Can be anything and everything from research, reporting, building out processes, setting up new systems and leading team members.

Background

The main education I am proud of is my Bachelor's Degree in Business Management (applied in Sports) at Leeds Metropolitan University. Throughout my working career, I started out in Waitressing, Administration & Receptionist work. This then lead me into a Call Centre Manager role (managing a team of 20 people), then into various roles of Events Management, Hotel Management, plus a Business Operations/EA. Finally, I got my role at The Verve Group during Covid, where I won the 'Best New Signing' Award in 2020 and the overall 'The Verve Award' in 2022 - two more very proud moments!

Interests and Hobbies

My current main interest is my VW Campervan and taking road trips with my two dogs Ginnie and Gertie! Love getting outdoors in the wild, long walks, summer nights and wild lake or sea dips!
I'm also a bit of a foodie, love to cook, and splash out on a gorgeous meal with friends when I can. Live music is also my thing, will always choose to be somewhere with live music playing!

Fun Facts

First things first I dislike sweetcorn with a passion, so please steer away from me with that awful stuff if it's lurking in your lunch - haha! :D

A funny story I remember is when Cathi got her roller skates on and went for a skate down the office, hands in the air, bumping into the desk at the bottom end. At this point, we all then realised the person sitting at the desk was a new potential employee sitting a trial haha - what a way to meet the CEO! P.S The skates still lurk under her desk so watch out!

Advice for a New Starter

Be your authentic self, everyone is so welcoming so don't be afraid to approach people and ask questions. We are all here to support each other to reach for the stars, so don't be afraid to dig deep and give things a try - you won't regret it!

Working at Verve

If you put in the hard work, everyone is rewarded in return - work hard, play hard. The benefits are fantastic, you'll be working with amazing people and there is always something exciting happening to keep you engaged. Just some include well-being and charity events, Summer Soiree & Christmas parties, and snacks in the kitchen to keep the energy levels up plus much more! Everyone has their own expertise and gel together to make things happen and achieve our company mission.

Amy Thomas

Finance Assistant

Business Operations

Role and Responsibilities

The lone member in accounts! I monitor our income and expenses, create and send invoices and recently started working on our budget and cashflow.

Background

When I was 15 I did work experience with my mum who worked in accounts, which sparked my interest. I then started my AAT qualifications after college and have worked in finance for the last 10 years

Interests and Hobbies

I'll be either chasing after my wild toddler or my crazy dog.... who does love a weekly visit to the office! But I'm always at my happiest outside in the sun with a gin in hand.

Fun Facts

Well on my first day I nearly threw up on Nat in my HR induction....? #greatimpression
Also, a great phobia of mine = birds!

Advice for a New Starter

Easier said than done but don't be scared or worried about starting with us and being a newbie. Just be yourself and you'll fit right in!

Working at Verve

I could not ask for a better place to work - since day one everyone has been so supportive and friendly. That Sunday night dread of going to work soon stopped when I started here!

Angus Murray

Developer

Technology

Role and Responsibilities

I'm a Junior Web Developer building our new tech, Dextera!

Background

I've got a masters degree in Games Design, and two black-belts in karate which I've been studying for 15 years.

Interests and Hobbies

Love building computers, playing and making video games and fitness.

Fun Facts

Bet I could beat everyone in race you know... (bring on the next Verve sports day!)

Advice for a New Starter

Get involved in all the events and meet as many people as you can.

Working at Verve

Cool people and a great work atmosphere!

Anita Tudor

Administrator

SERVICES

Role and Responsibilities

While I'm studying for my Diploma in Financial Planning, I support the advisers and the paraplanners by doing data gathering on pensions and investments; chasing LOAs; confirming plan information with providers; keeping the Dextera system up to date and as accurate as possible. The role allows me to work on multiple cases in one day rather than focussing on one or two reports, which sometimes can be a challenge.

Background

Firstly, since I started working for the The Verve Group, I’ve decided to pursue a career in financial services and achieve a qualification in Regulated Financial Planning. Previously, I studied Criminology, and it was thought-provoking to explore how the criminal justice system intersects with political economy which motivated me to graduate with First Class Honours.

Interests and Hobbies

I enjoy visiting my home country, reading about history, the changes in modern society whether cultural or economic as well as spending quality time with my family.

Fun Facts

I have the superpower of eating and working at the same time during lunch time.

Advice for a New Starter

Personally, the most useful advice would be to have the courage to ask questions when you are stuck. In this way, a fellow colleague who has acquired experience in the field, can share with you tips and how to deal with time management to be as efficient and productive as possible. Similarly, adopt a positive attitude and always remind yourself that you can overcome any difficulties.

Working at Verve

It is a very fast-paced environment where every day is different, and you can learn new things. Simultaneously, you can discover new opportunity to develop and improve your professional and interpersonal skills. After taking part in training and quarterly meetings with the manager, you can identify the good and areas for improvement!

Becky Cowen

Paraplanner

SERVICES

Role and Responsibilities

Trainee Paraplanner - writing suitability reports, data gathering, research.

Background

I did Psychology at University of Nottingham and now training to be a paraplanner.

Interests and Hobbies

I love to travel and see the world
I also go to the gym and enjoy yoga too.

Fun Facts

When I visited Thailand I went swimming with sharks. I can definitely say it was quite scary and it didn't take me long to get back on the boat even if they were said to be friendly sharks!

Advice for a New Starter

There can be a lot to learn at the start, so I think the best way is just to get stuck in with your work and don't be afraid to ask questions!

Working at Verve

I love working at verve. Being in the office is always fun, especially when people bring their dogs to work! Everyone is so lovely to work with and always willing to help when I need it. It's a great place to work if you want to focus on progressing in your role and there are always new things to learn.

Becky Lockwood

Paraplanner

SERVICES

Role and Responsibilities

I work as a Paraplanner within The Verve Group. My main responsibilities are writing suitability reports and carrying out the supporting research and admin that go alongside. My second main responsibility is complaining about how cold the office is and drinking coffees!

Background

Well finance is a bit of a different role compared to what I did at college (Biology, Psychology, Chemistry and Health & Social) and University (Adult Nursing and Crime & Investigation) - but a welcomed change. Even around my education, all my employment history comes from serving people their lunch (working in Greggs) and serving them on the tills/stacking selves (working in The Co-op).

Interests and Hobbies

I soak up reality TV like nothing else and, if not watching some bad TV I will usually be watching Brooklyn 99 (for the 15th time) or a crime documentary (of course accompanied with a glass of Rose). I also love going to see live music and try to see at least 2 bands a month. I thrive in summer, going for a drink in the sun is probably my most favoured hobby - even better if I can bring my mini dachshunds (Monty & Ernie).

Fun Facts

I guess my kind of fun fact is that I am a qualified fingerprint analyst.

Advice for a New Starter

When I first started I thought I am never going to get my head around finance and being impatient I set myself unrealistic targets to be just as amazing as everyone else. Everyone here is unreal and will help you along every step of the way - every daft question you ask, they asked when they first started so keep asking away. You will get there and you will look back in even just 6 months time and think its crazy that before working here you could not name 5 pension providers or, of the top of your head, be able to know what Vanguard LifeStrategy fund maps with a certain risk profile. It's crazy, you'll be knackered by 9pm every night but it'll be class!

Working at Verve

Verve is the kind of place where you are happy to bump into your colleagues outside of work.

Cathi Harrison

Founder & CEO

Business Operations

Role and Responsibilities

I'm the CEO of Verve, having launched the original business, Para-Sols, back in 2009. Today my responsibilities include a bit of everything; working on the direction and strategy of the company, constantly working on ensuring we're at the forefront of finance and sticking my oar in everyone's business to see what they're up to!

Background

I've always been in finance, first as an administrator, then a paraplanner and then setting up an outsourced paraplanning company. I have too many finance qualifications, and a degree in English and Business. My own education and experience now is focused on learning to run a business the best I can!

Interests and Hobbies

I have a mild obsession with wine - and even have a little wine business on the side! I also like running, salsa and hanging out with my little 6 year old boy who regularly thrashes me at chess.

Fun Facts

I am renowned for losing things. Usually my purse and / or bank cards. They need replacing several times a year. It's quite the challenge!

Advice for a New Starter

Firstly, don't be afraid to ask. You won't find a friendlier bunch than here and absolutely everyone will be happy to help. Secondly, don't be easily scared! We're a growing mid-sized company, but with the mentality and agility of a start up. This means things change rapidly and you should get comfortable with that quickly. Thirdly - make sure you say hi!

Working at Verve

I'm biased as it's my own company! But I know the team love the other people, the friends they've made, the social aspects of it. Personally, I love that it's the kind of place that cares about the people - whether the internal team or the end client. We're here to make a difference and an impact to all and I personally won't rest until I know we have achieved that. Welcome to the team!

Cheryl Lunn

Product Manager

Technology

Role and Responsibilities

I'm Product Manager and I work closely with the tech team, along with key members across the business. I'm essentially a translator from the world of finance to tech... aiming to produce a brilliant bit of kit, better known as Dextera!

Background

You'll always know when I'm in the office... probably hear a few song snippets being hollered! I began my Verve journey as admin staff supporting the paraplanners when we were just Para-Sols. Over the years I've made my way around the business supporting where I can and building my knowledge of the Verve way & of finance as a whole. In more recent years I've focused my knowledge and experience on shaping the next big thing in finance which will be Verve's tech offering! The highlight is yet to come... bring on the Dex launch!

Interests and Hobbies

Well, I recently had a gorgeous little boy, Finley... so a lot of my time is spent being Mummy, which I wouldn't change for the world! Aside from that, I enjoy reading when I get 5 mins and getting out for walks with the dogs.

Fun Facts

Hmmm... One that often gets laughs around the office is that I am absolutely shocking at remembering sayings! I always get them muddled up, or think they mean something completely different. An example would be when I told someone "many happy returns" when they were leaving the company (fail).

Advice for a New Starter

Don't hesitate to ask questions. No matter what it may be, everyone is always willing to listen & help where needed. So don't suffer in silence :)

Working at Verve

It's chaotic in the best possible way. You're always kept on your toes and it can be a lot sometimes but it's worth it to see all the endless possibilities available for both you and the business.

Christian Markwick

Senior Client Consultant

SALES

Role and Responsibilities

Working closely with our clients. Supporting them with all things Compliance and general business support too. Mainly talking, all day, every day!

Background

Too many years industry experience to count on all my hands and toes now. I was an adviser (mortgage and then wealth) for circa 15 years, then General Manager of an IFA Practice, responsible for compliance and was a client of Para-sols and then Apricity. I did my diploma in 2015 and sat 3 exams in 36 hours. I'm still battling my way through my Advanced Diploma exams...

Interests and Hobbies

Eating, drinking, travelling, sunbathing and watching rugby. If all were being done at the same time I would be in heaven.

Fun Facts

I am a fluent Welsh speaker. I did all my schooling in Welsh and used to be called upon regularly to conduct interviews in Welsh for the local news about any changes in financial services, the mortgage market or property market.

Advice for a New Starter

Be a sponge. Ask as many questions as you can, read from all sides of the political arena, listen to what others have to say and absorb it all. Then and only then make your own opinions about how you feel/believe.

Working at Verve

Each day starts with a blank bit of paper as even I dont know what will happen that day, either of my own doing or from others. Roll with it, adapts with it, evolve with it, it's worth it.

Clare Palfreeman

Client Consultant

SALES

Background

I have years of experience in mortgage and financial advice holding a CeMAP and CeFAP qualification along with banking qualifications working for a mainstream lender as well as being a broker. I understand the client journey from start to finish as well as the adviser processes to get the correct result. I also have experience of consulting within compliance managing projects from start to finish ensuring suitability of advice given was suitable for the consumer.

Interests and Hobbies

I spend a lot of time in the gym as I started competing in bodybuilding, during 'prep' it can be quite intense making sure all the boxes are hit. When not in the run up to a show things are more relaxed and a lot of freedom around food so I take advantage of holidays, meals and drinks with friends and family. During the summer I love any sort of little adventure seeing different places and trying new fun activities.

Fun Facts

I once got locked in a pub toilet and to get out I had to crawl underneath the door. When I got out the entire place had heard what had happened and everybody clapped as I walked back in - Shoot me!

Advice for a New Starter

Be yourself! With any job the initial few months tend to be daunting whilst you settle in, here you can be yourself from the start and showing your personality will help you get settled sooner than any other job you've had.

Working at Verve

It's not like working in finance. It's human, it's friendly and it's vibrant! There's wellbeing activities, parties, and socials but everybody still gets high quality work done! Everybody is knowledgeable and nothing is too much to ask of anybody, you're made so welcome! Plus, there's doggy visitors too which always makes a good day.

Francesca Southam

Financial Services Trainee

Services

Role and Responsibilities

I’m a Financial Services Trainee.

Background

I graduated with a BA in Business Management and joined Verve through The Grad Scheme as a newbie to finance.

Interests and Hobbies

I enjoy dancing, not that I have any skill in it! I also enjoy spending time outside, especially in the summer when it’s nice and warm.

Fun Facts

Because of Covid, I didn’t have my first in-person lecture until my 3rd year of university, and 5 minutes in when the slideshow came on, I realised it was for a module I did in my first year and had to dash out!

Graham Stoves

Developer

Technology

Role and Responsibilities

Web developer working in the Tech team, helping to build the brand new tech for Verve and its clients to use! Also part of the social champs, helping to plan the upcoming socials at Verve :)

Background

Studied BTEC Computing in college, moved on to do an apprenticeship as an ICT Primary School teaching assistant then decided to do Computer Science with Web Development at Northumbria University where I was very pleased to receive a 1st Class.

Interests and Hobbies

Love going to the theatre, particularly to see musicals. Also like watching a good TV series, or a film at the cinema with mates. Also enjoy walking and spending a lot of time with family, especially my 1 and a half year old nephew :)

Fun Facts

I was once on You've Been Framed for fighting my friends with pretend sheep during a Nativity play - still haven't got my £200 for this!

Advice for a New Starter

Know that everyone is really easy to talk to and get along with. Take part in the socials/quizzes that are organised as it's a good way of getting to know other people in Verve.

Working at Verve

Amazing! From the people that work there to the flexibility with hours and hybrid working, Verve has everything to make it such a relaxing and fun atmosphere to work in. The social and wellbeing aspect is great to help get to know people, and the beer fridge is definitely an added bonus on a Friday afternoon!

Grant Callaghan

Technical Specialist

SERVICES

Role and Responsibilities

My role's, shall we say, a little varied. I'm originally a paraplanner but have drifted across to the DNA service, specifically the template service (I maintain our internal templates too).

I also dabble in compliance and getting involved in events we provide to advisers

Background

Like most of us, I didn't have a specifically finance based Uni background. I came straight here from Uni (degree in Business Management) so don't really have any non-Verve professional background. I did spend 3 or so years in construction before/during Uni but sadly there hasn't been much crossover option with anything i picked up there

Interests and Hobbies

Home life is now dominated by chasing a toddler around, but outside that I play a lot of football, casual and as part of a charity team which occasionally travels across the country to play against other charities. I also like to listen to a lot of podcasts with the main ones being interesting conversations and then narrative histories.

Fun Facts

I've got such a thing with heights that when trying GoApe, I could only manage the first one and had to come down halfway on climbing the second. Every single one after was me waiting at the bottom and watching

Advice for a New Starter

People are happy to help and we dont consider anyone to have any dumb questions. There's also room to progress as much as you want.

Working at Verve

You get a lot of freedom to work out what pathway you want to take. You're not locked into a fixed job role and progression path so theres plenty of ways to do what you really enjoy. The perks of parties, office events and basically being a part-time doggy daycare also help.

Hayley Rabbets

Head of The Verve Foundation

Business Operations

Role and Responsibilities

I'm Head of The Verve Foundation, which is our not-for-profit that exists to make fundamental changes within the financial services industry.

Our first initiative, We Are Change, aims to attract people from outside of the industry, we train them up to achieve a Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning and then help place them with an employer at the end of the programme.

Our next initiative, The Adviser Incubator, helps support new and early-stage advisory firms in the early days and provides them a supportive community, a core programme of sessions designed to help them set out some solid foundations from the start and mentoring from experienced industry professionals.

Alongside our main initiatives. we get involved in educational workshops, teaching people basic money skills, speaking about money more openly, breaking taboos and smashing stereotypes.

My key responsibilities are looking after these initiatives, coming up with fresh ideas on how we can have an impact within the industry, building relationships, getting sponsorship to keep us going, marketing the organisation and generally shouting my mouth off about what we're doing and why 😇

Background

I started out in finance back in 2007 when I joined a financial advice firm as a receptionist. I’d had no financial services experience but found myself asking a million questions (this has never stopped!) and being really interested in the answers!

I’ve held a variety of roles – receptionist, office manager, administrator, PA, paraplanner, operations and senior management – mainly within financial advice firms, until I joined Verve in October 2021 to head up the services we offer.

I was asked to be The Verve Foundation’s ambassador for education alongside my day job and just found my passion for making much-needed changes within the industry burning. Cathi mentioned she was at a crossroads with The Verve Foundation needing some full-time focus to drive it forward and I pretty much threw myself at her… and here I am now heading it up!

I’m level 6 qualified, Chartered and was very proud to achieve this during my time as a paraplanner, but the achievement I’m most proud of is winning the Verve “Best Original Screenplay (AKA innovation)” award at our Christmas party in 2022. I was genuinely shocked when my name was called out!

Interests and Hobbies

I love being outside - walking the love of my life Barney (dog, not partner), gardening, camping, hiking, sunbathing, reading, drinking 😂 I love music... which is also much better outside in the sunshine. Love food... much better outside. You get the idea!

Fun Facts

I'm not sure how 'fun' these facts are, but here goes... I have an almost fool proof method of avoiding hangovers, I can chat shit surprisingly easily to fill awkward silences, I pack really lightly, Maddie and I have an alter ego - TRISH (all caps) - who helps us through the day, cheesy chips with burger sauce is my end of night go-to aaaand I know every word of Eminem's "The Way I Am" ... right I'm off to get sectioned now 👋

Advice for a New Starter

Ask questions! If you're not sure about something, I guarantee you someone at Verve will know the answer. We have such a diverse team, who are all so supportive and genuinely want to see people succeed - #GotYourBack is one of our values for a reason.

Working at Verve

Verve is the most unique place I have ever worked. We work hard and play harder! We're lucky to have a great team who really are like family. Verve is the kind of place where you can really shine bright, encouraged and supported the whole way and when things go wrong (which is an inevitability in life) there is a real honesty and transparency about what's happening and why. Everyone at Verve truly cares about what they do and the people they work with - I think that really shines through and shows the world who we are.

Helen Spaven

Administrator

Business Operations

Role and Responsibilities

Administrator
DG for the Paraplanners.

Background

Studied Sociology in Manchester at university and graduated in 2001, but have only had financial type jobs since in various positions mainly doing accounts payable.

I’ve held a variety of roles – receptionist, office manager, administrator, PA, paraplanner, operations and senior management – mainly within financial advice firms, until I joined Verve in October 2021 to head up the services we offer.

Interests and Hobbies

I enjoy exercising, but running is my favourite. I have ran 3 marathons so far and have plans for more. I have made my majority of friends through running and my only wish is that I should have taken it up sooner. I would love to do the London Marathon, but its so hard to get into.

My cat is called Mr Danvers after a character in a PC game that I was playing with my husband at the time that we got him. He is 15 now (the cat, not my husband)

While going on holiday to the South of France I ended up on a plane to Geneva instead. My parents drove overnight to pick me up and take me to France. This journey took them 15 hours in total.

I'm always cold and will be the one packing socks and thin cardigans to go on holiday just in case it gets a bit chilly - which it always does

I planned my wedding in less than 3 weeks. Went to meet my now husband for lunch one Monday and went back to work to request the day off 2 weeks later on the Friday as I had booked my wedding (you only had to give 2 weeks notice back then to get married).

Jo Campbell

Chief Operations Officer

SERVICES

Role and Responsibilities

So I'm Chief Operations Officer (COO for short) at The Verve Group. That means I ensure everything we do works well for both us and our clients. I predominately look after all of our services, so paraplanning, training, compliance and technical services, but I have my grubby little mitts in everything. As part of the Senior Leadership Team I help to develop and deliver strategy on existing and new services and ensure that we meet our mission and can achieve our vision.

My goal is to innovate, implement our strategy and make Verve the best consolidated services provider there is. So expect me to be coming to a department near you to help make everything efficient, profitable and easier!

Background

I've been in finance for around 18 years (like a full grown adult - which I am never described as!) working as an administrator and a paraplanner and really finding my focus and joy in the operations here at Verve. Cathi and I were friends (and colleagues) at an advice firm which is where we met and the Dream Team you see today was created.

Interests and Hobbies

I enjoy (poor) jokes and puns. A huge fan of eytomology and all things linguistic, I like to write (very poor) limericks and generally be creative with words.
You can often find me with a drink in hand being wildly inappropriate in some way or another.
I also enjoy all things horror; either reading (Stephen King being the absolute go-to GOAT) or watching (supernatural horror being the preference).

True to form:

There once was a girl called Jo
Who works in The Verve Co.
She's the C-O-O
So come say hello
No apologies for the bad jokes though

😊

Fun Facts

I was once nearly killed by Julian Casablancas from The Strokes.

Advice for a New Starter

Please just be your authentic self and be open to change. Take each day as it comes and go with it.
Verve is an adventure. Take that first step with us.
Ask as many questions of as many people as you need to.
Don't be afraid. We don't bite. Not even the dogs bite.

Working at Verve

Work hard, play hard has never been used more aptly.

Interests and Hobbies

Enjoys... mostly spending time with my little girl and wife, going for walks, a good TV series, listening to podcasts and reading if I manage to find the time... I'm partial to a good slice of cake and a cup of tea also. Wild, I know!

Fun Facts

My version of nails scratching on a chalkboard is that I absolutely cannot stand having wrinkly fingers (being submerged in water for too long) or seeing anyone else's wrinkly fingers for that matter!

Advice for a New Starter

Be yourself, get to know everyone and just embrace the madness!

Fun Facts

When I was in the Army we were flying to Belize, on the way we had a 14 hour stop off in Washington DC. So as you would expect from soldiers we found a bar to go to. However, we thought that we should at least do some site seeing while being in a place we probably wouldn't go to again. So we got a taxi to the White House. While the taxi was waiting we ran down for a photo of us all in front of it, then straight back to the taxi, which took us back to the bar.

As I was ready to drive away I noticed a lots of bags on the back seat and it slowly dawned I was in someone else's car. My car was parked further down the road. I was mortified and went home to tell my husband laughing. Later that day he called me to say the police had been in touch as someone had reported their car being forced into and they had me on

Natalie Bell

Chief Engagement Officer

Marketing

Role and Responsibilities

I'm Chief Engagement Officer which basically means I'm responsible for how people engage with us as a company. Externally, that means with clients (existing and new!) - so think all things brand and marketing and then internally with our team too (existing and new!) - so the company culture we cultivate and the experience you have with us as part of the team!

This means I'm a bit of an anomoly and span two departments - Marketing and People

Background

From uni I went straight into the creative sector working on brand and marketing campaigns. Firstly doing event management (the fancy corporate kind!), then secondly to an agency which specialised in driving change initiatives within the public sector (so lots of filming in hospitals and delivering focus groups in prisons!). Then thirdly, to here - Verve - where I started in 2017 when it was just a tiny team in Para-Sols and tasked with the uneviable challenge of bringing Cathi's vision for world domination to life...

Interests and Hobbies

It's no surprise (being the creative marketeer that I am!) that I love any creative activities - could be crafts or it could be video editing TikToks with my daughter. That said, I get my biggest kick out of singing - I can't do it particularly well but I'm part of an adult choir and that one hour a week is all the therapy I need!

Fun Facts

I could keep it easy and tell you that I've skydived, or swam with Great Whites (whilst in a cage!), or that I hate novelty socks (I have a draw of black ones) so instead I'll tell you that with my choir in the last couple of months, I've sang a bride down the aisle and have recorded a song that's been released to promote the benefits of singing!

Advice for a New Starter

We're huge advocates of bringing your authentic self, so my pearl of wisdom would be to be yourself! Yes, we obviously need to maintain a level of professionalism but that doesn't mean you need to hold back on being true to yourself, there's so much strength that comes from diversity of thought, experience and even humour.

Working at Verve

You're genuinely among friends from day 1 - everyone has been the 'newbie' once so we've walked in those shoes and only want to see you thrive! Also, I'd say don't be afraid to get involved - dive straight into the team socials and get amongst the chat. You get out what you put in and there's lots of fun to be had, things to learn and new friends to be made!

Verve has the best culture and the best people. Everyone is so friendly and there’s always something to get involved in alongside your everyday role. You can expect a relaxed office atmosphere from day one (ft office dogs) and support whenever you need it!

Role and Responsibilities

So, in a nutshell my role is Consultant support. I help to onboard new clients to Verve with Clare who is Client Consultant, and also help Christian with existing clients get signed up to using our other services. I get people signed up to Dex, send out relevant forms dependant on the service, I do chase ups and look after the Consultants diaries with booking in meeting.

Background

I have just over six years experience dealing with clients in a sales environment. I started as an apprentice and got my qualification in Business and Administration in 2017. I love building relationships with clients and tending to their needs and queries. I love helping people that much I studied counselling and got my certificate in 2021.

Interests and Hobbies

Volunteering, painting, socialising, drinking and walking in pretty places.

Fun Facts

I love unicorns, tell everyone when I'm constipated, I am like an excitable Labrador, lack common sense and love cuddles :)

Advice for a New Starter

Ask questions because everyone is happy to help. Use the ''our people'' to remember names and faces! Very handy.

Working at Verve

I love it so far and I am still quite nervous while I find my feet but the people, the work ethic and culture makes every day easier. Everyone is actually happy to do their job because of the work force that has been built.
